art focus day

I'm thinking today should be an art focus day after fighting the snow, wind, drifts and idiots on the road it creates. If you know someone looking for art, a hand painted sign, a charcoal drawing or needs a remote CAD draftsman (of 15 years) to get me off the roads - send em over to http://katehagerartist.com

the problem with contract places for work

So we got like 9" of snow over the last 24 hours. Roads are crappy, all schools are closed, daycares, churches, etc. I've been on my job over 6 months, but through a contract place. We get no benefits, no paid vacation, no accrued time off, sick or personal, health, etc. Here us 5 contract employees sit at work. There are a couple other straglers....but most of the "real" employees...with benefits like we don't get...called in snow day yeah, can't make it out the driveway!!

And yet we....had to get up early, scrap, dig, fight our way out and in and risk lives...not because we are brand new and working towards benefits. Because we are "contract" - which is what almost every employer uses nowadays. There is a problem with that.

I could do my job just as well on a laptop...at my house, safe off the roads. I'm a draftsman, designer, 15 years experience. Why can't I find a firm that will let me work there, remote, flex schedule with benefits like a real employee??

winter hath arrived

Avoided the highway....cause I've been doing this enough years to know to. Everyone that first week of snow "forgets" - and the road isn't bad, but they do it every year, so back roads become out friend...well sometimes lol. Today I got behind that person doing 30...because there was snow on the ground. It wasn't slippery really, a teeny bit but no more than when it rains. But that white fluffy stuff just seems to bring it out. So here we go for another winter...unless I match numbers, find remote CAD work, or for some reason collectors decide my art work is the new in thing.....

store page updates for Art Signs Gifts Soap Lotion

I did some updates to the store page on the website - http://katehagerartist.com/store.html to try and get together the funds we need to make it through the winter months. With no produce to take to farm markets we are in the season we fight to keep grain in the barn as we slowly grow ourselves. We also have 3/4 of a beef up for sale if you are in Mid-Michigan and looking for beef grown the way grandpa used to...drop me a line. I have lots of art work that just sits and it's a shame as they are such pretty pieces that would go with any decor and can be shipped.

feel free to drop me a line to see more.
I do sign work, visual art, would like to do more murals but that would require not having to have a 40 hour a week j.o.b. to have the time to do it. I can do some cool stuff if I could find my market out there and how I would love to. I do CAD work, art work, signs, hand made lotions and soap, we have the beef, produce in summer (we acquired the materials to build a greenhouse but need the time to construct), rabbits, goats (dairy and meat) and of course our chickens and ducks

the ghost town

Walking around the office it feels like that...a ghost town, only a handful here and those of us that still have jobs are scraping the barrel for as-builts and work to do. Kinda scary - Anyone want a good reliable experienced draftsman? W2 contract, remote my own office, drop me a line if you want to hear more. I'm also an artist, charcoals, painting, simple or wall type mural work, I've airbrushed, done a couple logos a color book... We are working on building the farm to hopefully let the beef cows make the mortgage, but that is still a ways off, need a full time income still.

Drop me a line to discuss projects - either cad or art related.

Where did the year go...

What a year, was blessed with our farm, have accumulated all kinds of critters over the year. Lost a lovely doe, gained two more, got our Disney princess cows :o (they came to us kinda spoiled and think they are royalty). Still on our quest to find remotework #CAD from home while we build up or a way to just pay off the #farm and be able to both stay home and work it like it should be. But it's been quite the year. #Art work, #signs, #gifts, #hand painted items all available, come look around the site, help us out if you can with an order or sharing with someone you know http://katehagerartist.com

good morning y'all

I'm thankful for my farm, my husband, my cows...goats..chickens..ducks..rabbits and that even though it's an annoying job...my job for allowing me to pay for it all.

I will still continue my quest for paying off the farm, for flex schedule remote work, for working my way out of work...to work, the farm. But I'd just like to to start today out being thankful I have the farm to go home to after stressful days and fighting traffic.

sick fever cough, have to be at work but there is no work

So I'm going to write I guess. We got our new pics, chickens and calves home, day one of the 102 deg fever, today is day four but it's down to 100. Everyone at work is all oh why did you come, same reason I come everyday, bills. I have to pay them. No sick, personal or vacation time for us "contractors" means I get to come share the virus with em. They think I shouldn't come in sick, give me a way not to. I'd happily be home on the couch with my afgan, I would. But unless someone randomly picks up a bill, how? I haven't found a way to earn a real income from my house, and I'm not working for new nails, a hair cut or boots. I'm working for utilities, insurance and mortgage. Yes I'm still looking for remote work, CAD drafting, something to do with my art work. But today...today I'm just here at my desk, sick. I will do all I can, all they give me anyway but as far as promoting myself as available as a remote designer, well the pounding head says nah.

I can do a variety of things...when I'm well lol.
and then they make fun that I'm not working...my engineer didn't give me any work, you dorks aren't working either your talking...about me not working....sigh. I need the farm paid off, just flat out paid off so I can build it up without also having to come up with that mortgage payment.

office politics..

"the most talented and accomplished employees often take a backseat to their politically adept coworkers, losing ground in the race to get ahead—sometimes even losing their jobs."

From one book excerpt I read. The question is why. Why must I play the game. It's tiring, the guy that does the job best isn't the one that gets the job, the one that plays the politics best does. And they the guy that didn't get the job, has to fix the job, cause the guy that "won" it...doesn't know what they are doing.

And we go around and around again, I just want to do what I'm good at, drawing, drafting, cad until my farm can pay for itself. I'm a good draftsman, I know the programs I can follow directions. I can do red lines, heck I can mark em up. I just want to work. Just work....

hand painted signs, mixed media and visual art, experienced cad draftsman all wrapped in one

What can I do for you - your logo, your sign, fill your foyer with visual art then do your fabrication or drawings. Jill of trades but working on building an heirloom produce and beef farm so need that work to be remote. Here's a few things I can do for ya....stop on by the site for more examples and pictures and help me leave the cubicle life for the one I'm meant to do.
